About Stavanger
Squares:
Stavanger Squares was officially started as a club in 1972, and
is probably the oldest square dance club in
Scandinavia. It began with the Americans
who worked in the oil industry came together private
and danced. But soon there were requests for courses and more organized conditions and the club was founded. Loretta
and Maurice Chaney was the driving force is considered the club's founders. The first year
was dominated by American members, but
already in 1973-1974,
the first Norwegian pairs with. Today there are
still members of the club
who have danced more or less continuously
since then. The number of members has varied over the years from 40
- 50 As of 1 January 2011 there were 22 active members.
Course: Course can be arranged as needed. Please check the information under the
key Course..
Jamboree: The club has not held Jamboree in recent years because of little support
in the club.
Special Events: The club does not have its own caller, and therefore
held the weekend
dances with invited callers. These are
events that are primarily for club members
and it is not sent out invitations. But dancers from other clubs are of course welcome.
Demo-dance: club receives a number of inquiries about the Demo-dancer.
There is everything
from public appearances on the squares and streets,
to private parties, various functions and cultural events.
